CENTRAL VACUUM

The first central vacuum systems were introduced in the late 19th century. They were implemented as copper tubes installed throughout several areas of the home and connected to a bellows chamber which was typically located in the basement. They introduced a much simpler way for the cleaning staff to maintain a clean home, and we still use that same basic concept today for modern central vacuum systems.

Today’s systems, however, are much more sophisticated and powerful than their predecessors. They use powerful electric motors and vacuum canisters similar to the vacuum cleaner you currently use. Central vacuum units are typically installed in a basement, closet, or in a storage room, and hoses are run to individual locations throughout the home.

A central vacuum system takes the place of your typical vacuum cleaner and is much easier to deal with in a multi-level home. No more lugging the heavy vacuum cleaner up or down the stairs just to clean the floors. Many people worry that a central vacuum system won’t include important parts like a motorized brush head to ensure that carpeting gets as clean as possible. We’re happy to say that is not the case with today’s new central vacuum systems.

Central Vacuum Accessories

Modern accessory kits for the central vacuum system include:

  • Hoses up to 35 feet long
  • Powerhead with rotating brush and multiple settings
  • Hardwood floor mop tools
  • Crevice tools
  • Dusting brushes
  • Upholstery tools
  • Telescopic wands to reach difficult to reach areas

Central vacuum systems have evolved greatly over time. They’re much nicer than they’ve ever been and provide more functionality than many top of the line household vacuum cleaners.
